The UNAIDS 2016–2021 Strategy calls for bold action to Fast-Track the AIDS response. It incorporates a human rights-based approach to development and aims to leave no one behind in the AIDS response. The strategy recognizes sexual and reproductive health and rights issues, calls for comprehensive sexuality education and the removal of punitive laws, policies and practices that block an effective AIDS response, including travel restrictions and mandatory testing, and those related to HIV transmission, same-sex sexual relations, sex work and drug use.
Blue Gate Initiative works with international, regional and national levels to research, document, defend, and advance human rights for LGBTI and other key populations in Nigeria.
We do this by;
- providing psychosocial services and trainings to develop their expertise, convening key stakeholders to exchange information on best practices related to ending violence based on sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression, or sex characteristics.
- Monitoring and documenting the discriminatory and life-threatening conditions LGBT and other key populations face in order to spur action to stop human rights violations when they occur.
- Providing legal services for LGBTI and other key populations
